River access
Swim, fish and paddle on your private stretch of the Ouachita.

A whole forest to call your own, river, bluffs and trails, sixty years in the making.
Our family homesteaded this land six decades ago, and the cedars, oaks and towering pines that shade it have stood for many years as part of the Ouachita National Forest. In spring, redbuds and dogwoods bloom across the property. It is a private wilderness, gated, quiet, and shared only between our two guest homes.

A gentle path leads down past a 60-year-old hand-built cobblestone wall to the water's edge, a perfect spot for swimming, fishing, or putting in a canoe or kayak for a lazy float downstream.
Cast a line at dawn, wade in on a hot afternoon, or simply sit on the bench and watch the current go by. After heavy rain the river can run high and fast, so we'll always let you know when conditions are best.

A short, mostly grassy walk up the hill brings you to a slate bluff lookout with views of the river and horizon stretching for miles to the south, east and west, the finest seat on the property for sunrise and sunset alike.
The bluffs themselves are slabs of delicate slate thrust up from ancient volcanic activity, hosting their own tiny ecosystem of plants and fungi. Tread carefully near the edges, keep little ones close, and let the view do the rest.

Natural rocky and grassy trails loop through the densely shaded forest to the south and west. Along the way you'll find wildflowers, mushrooms, cacti, mosses and lichen, and at dusk, the call of a Chuck-will's-widow or Whip-poor-will drifting through the trees.
The same trails carry you up to the bluffs and back, an easy loop that's different in every season. We do ask that motorized vehicles stay off the trails, and we keep a watchful eye out for rattlesnakes and fire-ant mounds, please do the same.
